Philippine National Cinema Day 2026

Box-OfficeSpider-Man

The first Philippine National Cinema Day landed on Saturday 12 September 2026. Regular 2D admission was advertised at ₱100, local and international titles alike. What follows is read off the seat maps, across every chain that publishes one online.

58.7% full

Against 5.7 percent the day before, and the second fullest Saturday in this record.

Did the lower ticket prices work? A resounding yes. The theaters ran 58.7 percent full, against 5.7 percent the day before, and they packed in a good spread of films.

That makes Cinema Day the second fullest Saturday in this record, which begins 14 July. The only Saturday that beats it is 1 August, the opening weekend of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, at 71.8 percent full.

Spider-Man itself went back to its opening numbers. In its seventh week it ran 82.3 percent full on Cinema Day, against 82.2 percent on its own opening Saturday and 9.7 percent the Saturday before. The lower ticket price finally got people into a show they did not have the budget for before.

Horror filled the rooms. Insidious: Out of the Further ran 84.3 percent full across 225 screenings. The five classics playing in the same cinemas on the same day ran between 11.2 and 23.2 percent, filling 5,280 seats between them, an average of 39 per screening. Insidious averaged 201. Films that are only showing in cinemas still draw a crowd.

Every chain that could be read ran at least eight times fuller than its own Friday. Ayala Malls went from 8.3 to 68.5 percent, Megaworld from 2.6 to 63.4, Robinsons from 6.2 to 61.4, and SM from 5.2 to 56.0.

The ten panels that follow carry the rest: what Cinema Day was, the day against the days around it, the nine Saturdays in the record, the Spider-Man comparison, the price tiers, every chain, the hour curve, the films, the top ten cinemas, and how this was counted.

HOW THIS WAS COUNTED

takilya.ph

I read cinema seat maps on a schedule. For every screening I keep the last reading taken before the show started, or the first one after it.How full is seats taken divided by sellable seats. Both totals are summed over every screening that carries a reading. Blocked and reserved seats are in neither total.A taken seat is not a proven sale.A seat map shows what the box office had already released. It is the closest thing to attendance I can observe, not a receipt.Cinema Day is counted from those readings directly. On 9 and 11 September the same method returns 5.7% and 5.7%, matching this project's settled figures for those days. The readings cover part of the day.1,651 of the day's 3,519 screenings carry one. Weighted by the full schedule the day reads 61.5%, so 58.7% is cautious.Gateway Cineplex is not in the occupancy figures.Unfortunately, due to data issues, it is left out.3,519screenings scheduled186cinemas open39titles on the boards1,651screenings read228,079seats filled10showtimes, the mostany one screen ran

Each chain's own published seat map, 28 chains scheduled and 6 read, Manila dates throughout. Prices are the listed prices carried on the schedule, read 10 to 12 September.
